AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Although the band members are considered pioneers of heavy metal, they have always classified their music as ""Rock n' roll"".
AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership remained stable until bassist Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977. In 1979, the band recorded their highly successful album Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott's replacement. Later that year, the band released their best-selling album, Back in Black.
The band's next album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, was also highly successful and was their first album to reach number one in the United States. AC/DC declined in popularity soon after drummer Phil Rudd was fired in 1983 and replaced by future Dio drummer Simon Wright. Poor record sales continued until the release of The Razors Edge in 1990, the only studio album to feature Wright's replacement Chris Slade. Phil Rudd returned in 1994 (after Slade was asked to leave in favor of him) and contributed to the band's 1995 album Ballbreaker. Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000 and was well-received by critics. The band's most recent album Black Ice was released on 20 October 2008.
AC/DC have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, including 71 million albums in the United States. Back in Black has sold an estimated 42 million units worldwide and 22 million in the United States alone, where it is the fifth highest-selling album. AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1's list of the ""100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock"" and the seventh ""Greatest Heavy Metal Band Of All Time"" by MTV. In 2004, the band was ranked number 72 in the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
In 2005, the Recording Industry Association of America upgraded the group's US sales figures from 63 million to 69 million, making AC/DC the fifth-best-selling band in US history and the tenth best selling artist, selling more albums than Madonna, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson

Somos apresentados a Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Joey e Ross, logo após Carol assumir-se lésbica e divorciar-se de Ross. Neste ponto, Monica, Phoebe e Ross vivem sozinhos, enquanto Chandler e Joey dividem apartamento. Ela se muda para o Apartamento de Monica e começa a trabalhar como garçonete no Central Perk, batalhando para sustentar-se após abandonar uma vida de luxos.

O Coldplay possui uma sonoridade próxima a de outros artistas como Radiohead, Oasis, Jeff Buckley e Travis. Outras influências são U2, R.E.M, Pink Floyd, John Lennon, The Smiths, Sparklehorse, The Stone Roses, Tom Waits, The Flaming Lips, Neil Young, Echo and the Bunnymen e, mais recentemente, Johnny Cash e Kraftwerk. Antes de sua morte, Cash foi de fato convidado pela banda a gravar uma música pendente, mas não teve a oportunidade de fazê-lo.
Desde o lançamento de A Rush of Blood to the Head, seu segundo disco, o Coldplay tem também apoiado várias causas políticas. Eles têm advogado pela campanha "Make Trade Fair" da Oxfam e pela Anistia Internacional. A banda também participou de vários projetos de caridade como o "Band Aid 20", o "Live 8" e o "Teenage Cancer Trust". Chris Martin também protestou contra a invasão do Iraque e apoiou John Kerry.
Em abril de 1999, Coldplay lançou o single "Brothers & Sisters" com a gravadora Fierce Panda. Devido a isto, a Revista New Musical Express elogiou Coldplay como uma das melhores bandas de 1999.
O lançamento do primeiro EP, "Safety", foi usado para intenção inicial, quando Debs Wild, da Universal Record, deu a cópia do CD à Give Keeling, da Parlophone Record e a Caroline Ellery, da BMG Publishing. A banda assinou contrato com as duas companhias no verão de 1999.
"Safety" e "Brothers & Sisters" abriram caminho para outro EP, "The Blue Room", lançado em outubro de 1999. Com uma nova gravadora, a Parlophone, Coldplay começou a tocar em vários festivais de música. Coldplay lançou seu primeiro álbum, Parachutes, em julho de 2000. As músicas "Yellow" e "Trouble" ganharam popularidade nas rádios da Europa. Somente no Reino Unido, venderam mais de 1,6 milhões de cópias.
Tendo sucesso na Europa, Coldplay embarcou para os Estados Unidos. O álbum foi um sucesso na América do Norte, com boas críticas dos norte-americanos e ganharam o Grammy na categoria de melhor álbum alternativo em 2002.
Os integrantes do Coldplay regressaram aos estúdios de gravação em outubro de 2001 para trabalhar em um segundo álbum. Com dificuldades de tempo, lançaram seu segundo álbum em agosto de 2002, A Rush of Blood to the Head foi considerado como um amadurecimento musical por parte do grupo. Receberam melhores críticas e venderam mais cópias do que Parachutes. Destaque para as músicas "In My Place", "The Scientist" e "Clocks". A Rush Of Blood To The Head ganhou dois prêmios Grammy em 2003 e outro em 2004.
A banda fez uma turnê mundial de junho de 2002 a setembro de 2003. Aproveitando a turnê, gravaram um CD e DVD ao vivo em Sidney, Austrália, chamado Live 2003.
X&Y é o terceiro álbum da banda britânica Coldplay, lançado em diversos países no final de Junho de 2005. O primeiro single do álbum, "Speed of Sound", foi lançado em CD dia 23 de Maio de 2005. O álbum chegou ao topo da UK Album Chart com 464.471 cópias vendidas na primeira semana, ficando em segundo lugar no ranking. O álbum também fez sucesso nos Estados Unidos, vendendo cerca de 737.000 na primeira semana.
Chris Martin disse que o nome do álbum "X&Y" é uma referência aos pontos altos e baixos da vida no seu dia-a-dia. Martin disse "Meu dia inteiro é uma mistura de otimismo e pessimismo nas suas mais extremas formas. E isso que é X&Y para mim. São dois lados. Eu gosto do fato que elas são letras muito fortes, muito claras".
Apesar do sucesso repentino da banda, eles têm se mantido muito protetores de suas música e como ela é usada na mídia. Eles permitem que sua música seja usada no cinema, televisão e campanhas promocionais como o trailer do filme Peter Pan. Porem, a banda tem sido muito inflexível com o uso de suas músicas em propagandas publicitárias. Eles já recusaram contratos milionários da Gatorade, Diet Coke, e The Gap, que queriam usar as músicas "Yellow", "Trouble", e "Don\'t Panic" respectivamente. Segundo Chris, "Nós não conseguiríamos conviver com isso, se vendêssemos o significado da música assim".
